Charlie Chaplin in: Shoulder Arms

Charlie is a member of the "Awkward Squad"  in boot camp. He has problems with making a proper about-face and with marching. Once in France he gets no letters from home. He finally gets a package containing Limburger cheese which requires a gas mask and which he throws over into the German trench. He goes "over the top" and captures thirteen Germans. Escaping the enemy squad Charlie hides in a bombed-out house where a French girl, Edna Purviance, lives. She discovers him in her bed and tends to his wounds. Soon they're beset by the enemy squad, searching for Charlie. With the help of Edna he captures the Kaiser and the Crown Prince and is given a statue and victory parade in New York and then ... fellow soldiers wake him from his dream.
